Regarding the question of whether it is appropriate to forgive Nazis, I am reminded of Arno Michaelis, who fits the description of a former Neo Nazi white supremacist, who for years publicly promoted Nazi like philosophy and later did a complete turn around, devoting himself fully to combatting antisemitism. So in rare cases it is appropriate to forgive such a person, and appreciate their return to goodness.

Rabbi Cohen 's answer about guilt in Judaism is clear and beautiful. As someone who has struggled with unhealthy guilt it was very helpful.

Look around. Is this world the best a loving omnipotent God can create? It must be only a portal to the eternal world of bliss, serving as a place to help us earn the bliss, which makes the bliss even more enjoyable.
